To be full of the Holy Spirit is the expected life of the believer. How does the believer maintain the Spirit’s flow in their life? Many act as though the flow of the Spirit is fragile and uncertain. That the slightest mistake will send Him away and leave us empty and powerless until we have paid whatever penance our imperfection demands. Others see that fullness of the Spirit is a state that requires constant work and much spiritual labor. Some even say that the Spirit is in us always ready no matter what we do or do not do. We look into the Old Covenant to understand the power of the New.

To be full of the Holy Spirit is so much more than the exercise of a gift or the display of power. The desire of the Holy Spirit is so much more than to orchestrate powerful services. While such operations of the Holy Spirit are to be fully desired and entered into without reservation He, the Holy Spirit is God and He lives within His people that we may know God in a very real and intimate way. With the Gift of the Holy Spirit God has showed us that He is not hiding from us and is not withholding Himself from us in any way. To live full of the Holy Spirit is to live the real life that God has called us to in the complete knowledge of His Son.

Every believer should be full of the Holy Spirit. To be full of the Holy Spirit is to be what? That is the question and in the Word we have the answer. It is not a religious answer nor is it an answer of measurement through one manifestation of the Spirit or another. To be full is to be controlled by that which fills you. Many have a measure of fullness but we must desire to live above measure in that which we have received in Christ.

The thought of “Grace” has been given a singular meaning over the years that is quite unfortunate. We think of “grace” as only the forgiveness of sins when grace covers every aspect of our life in Christ. It is in His grace towards us that God deals with man. God freely gives all that He has to man through faith in His Son Jesus. Every gift of God is grace and we receive the fullness of grace through faith in Jesus, therefore grace is part of the believers life. It is simply given. We need not ask for what we have been given and so it is with the grace of God. All we must do is live in what is ours in Christ.
